Other collective nouns for them include quarrel, host and tribe. 

Visitors from England often remark about the number of sparrows up here and often say they can't remember when they last saw one.

I am happy to report that there are vast numbers of them in Orkney. We have a Hebe hedge full of them! Another taken through the window photo.
