Foggintor Quarry

On this very hot and sunny day I was out on Dartmoor with a friend.  We had hoped to find the bluebells still in flower at Emsworthy but given the recent heat and sun they were all over.  We did enjoy listening to several cuckoos in song while we looked at the animal and plant life in Emsworthy Mire.  We found a few orchids, Heath Spotted orchids I believe, see extra and noted all the small red winged beetles flying around.

We next headed onto Foggintor Quarry which unsurprisingly enough was very full with people sunbathing and maybe swimming in the water.  Given that we found two large black leeches in water by the main pool it certainly wouldn't tempt me in the water.  The trees around the ruined buildings of the quarry were in full bloom which was lovely to see.  It was a great day out although a very hot one.

Our camera club had its annual garden party in a members garden early evening so it was quite a quick rush to get there.  Lovely to catch up with some of the members some of whom I hadn't seen in person since covid restrictions first started.
