Clark Gable slept here

Today marks the beginning of rehearsals in our new rehearsal space in the 'Crystal Ballroom' at The Leopold, just across the street from our former location at the Amadeus Project.

This grand old building, constructed in 1889 is on the National Register of Historic Places and was originally The Byron Hotel. In 1910, it was sold to Seattle entrepreneur Leopold F. Schmidt, founder of the Olympic Brewing Company. The hotel was renamed The Leopold by his partners as a sign of appreciation.

The Leopold Hotel was the vibrant social center of turn-of-the-century Bellingham, WA and has entertained visitors from all walks of life and from all over the world including President William H. Taft, actress Sarah Bernhardt, Prince William of Sweden, Cicely Tyson, Shirley Temple, and Clark Gable.

In the 1980's The Leopold changed from being a full-service hotel, to a retirement living community, and underwent extensive renovation and restoration to restore its interior back to its original grandeur (stunning, detailed tilework everywhere, beautiful fountains, crystal chandeliers)

It may take some time to adjust to the very different acoustics in the Crystal Ballroom, but we've received such a warm welcome by staff and residents that rehearsing in this new space is going to be very productive and rewarding!
