White Spotted Sawyer Beetle...and Friends

This little guy with his really long antennae was on my front porch railing.  It is a Sawyer Beetle.  It is completely harmless and actually environmentally friendly as it drills into only dead wood to lay its eggs and the larvae help speed the decomposition of the fallen tree.  If you look closely, you can see his red jeweled necklace which is really beetle mites.  They don't harm the beetle, they are just hitching a ride.  They too are beneficial to soil fertility.  Of course, none of this I knew anything about before I saw this wee fellow.  Thank goodness for Dr. Google!
