Toothpaste Slime Mould

This morning I came across a big mass of the slime mould Lycogala epidendrum growing on the remains of a fallen Silver Birch trunk. My photograph only shows about a fifth of the mass. A few of the fruiting bodies have burst and the thick orange paste is exuding. Its this which gives it the vernacular name Toothpaste Slime or, more commonly, Wolf's Milk slime mould.
