Toilet with a View

A beautiful sunny morning, and then a cloudy afternoon and evening.  It was really warm, until we headed back home on the sea this evening.

Up really early, packed some things for our day out.  Met mam and dad at the boat, and headed off to Foula for the day, for an early father's day outing.  Dad had never been to Foula, and mam was last there in 1969.  Plenty of wildlife, a humpback and minkie whale, pod of dolphins, thousands of puffins, and much more.  We also spoke with friend Magnus, Kenny and Jim.  Pack lunch at the old post office, and evening meal on board the boat, after a trip around the back of the isle.  Might pop for a pint later this evening.

Dad was a tad confused, when I suggested going to see a toilet.  On arrival, he was surprised, and enjoyed seeing it.  It's probably Shetland's oldest surviving flushable toilet, dating back to the 1600s.  The burn would be dammed, and pulled up when flushing was necessary.  A fine view of the cliffs too.  These cliffs are dangerous, with a lady falling off them with her cow 100 years ago or so.  Taken at the Biggins, with Quirvidle in the background, Foula.
