Juneteenth 2021

Established now as a federal holiday in the United States. Mark’s the emancipation of the slavery in Galveston TX in 1865 two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Long known to African Americans as Juneteenth or liberation day or jubilee day or freedom day. Not widely known by the general population and especially us whites as it was kept out of most history books and schools curriculums. Finally a righting if an historical wrong.
This collage is at today’s celebration at Jim’s Hendrix park. I met longtime old friend from my bus driving days and she’s in yellow with the hat. Her beautiful daughter is in the bottom right and her adopted granddaughter to her right . A longtime male friend in the hat and other random festival images.
