Woodland Flowers

The Speyside woods are currently dotted with the white stars of chickweed wintergreen (Trientalis europaea) which seems to be particularly abundant this year. Confusingly this is neither a Chickweed nor a Wintergreen. The photograph was taken in the tranquil community woodland round Milton Loch at Boat of Garten where there are large patches of the flower.

The extra shows a true Wintergreen, the relatively inconspicuous, Lesser Wintergreen (Pyrola minor) which is just coming into flower in the pinewoods.
