Memorial & Water Lilies

On March 15th, 1957 the worst train accident in Finnish history took place here. Two trains collided head-on, resulting in 26 casualties and many more wounded.  My mother was a young nurse, 37 weeks pregnant with me. Survivors were brought to the hospital she worked in. She was shocked and went into labour and gave birth to me prematurely. So it was only fitting to come and see the place and this memorial which was only erected on the 60th anniversary of the catastrophe.

In the Extra you see a glimpse of the beautiful village of Renko. It's been built around a lake full of water lilies. One of my favourite places in Finland.
