Seal Pups

Yet another full day!

The morning was spent taking my Dad for his hospital checkup following his overnight stay a week past Thursday. He's doing well and won't need to go back unless any more problems occur so that's excellent.

Son#2 is still staying with us for a few more days and loves visiting the coast, so we parked the car at Seaton Sluice and walked to St Mary's Island and back. There are lots of seals on the rocks around the island at the moment (the authorities have roped the area off in order to prevent them being disturbed) so these two little ones have won their place on my blip today, taken with the long lens.

By the time we got back to the car it was a bit late to go home to cook, and it was a lovely evening, so we decided to get some fish & chips to eat by the sea. We tried in Tynemouth first but the chip shop closed at 7.30 and it was already 7.45 - then we tried in Whitley Bay but we arrived at 8.02 and they closed at 8! (Can you imagine a chippy in a seaside resort closing so early, in midsummer? - we were really surprised.) So we drove back home and our excellent local chip shop was open until 9pm - and the fish & chips were very good even without the sea air to add ambience.
