up there... in the trees...

Although I got outside nice and early today after yesterday's too-long-spent-inside I ended up spending a few hours of it sitting down watching things, albeit things on a big screen in a cinema rather than on a laptop in the flat. Days off are generally best spent doing things it's not possible to do on weekdays when working so after the initial wander I had a nice sit in a coffee-shop to post yesterday's entry, fill in another early-March gap-day and idly browse the local cinema listings over a second cup of pleasant coffee, the only problem being that this particular place serves coffee in wide-topped cups in which coffee is able to rapidly chill. There was a showing of some stop-motion shorts at the Filmhouse which looked reasonably interesting and which turned out to be getting presented by the bloke who apparently animated Toad in the Wind in the Willows television series. It was good for the occasional insight and extra little fact (or confirmation that that has Real Eyes in) but did sometimes over-"wonderful!" things a little bit and took up the time which could have been occupied by seeing more things with speaking. I normally don'r mind getting more stuff for the same money but I wanted to catch Let the Right One in over at the Cameo, especially as I'd already bought the ticket. Quite a slow-moving film but all the usual things which make things worth watching with nice natural-looking lighting, not too much bad child acting and a few nice touches to make it stand out from run-of-the-mill not-trying-any-more horrorstuff. I was surprised at the reaction of the boy-students in the row behind me; guffawing and oafing it up during the trailers but apparently quite disturbed by a couple of the gory bits and shock-moments by the sounds they made in response when most of the audience was chuckling. Definitely a worth-seeing-in-the-cinema.
