Newburgh On Ythan

Mrs CBL and I drove  a few miles down the road to the village of Newburgh which sits on the banks of the River Ythan.

The estuary is famous for the numbers of eiders and seals that throng around its entrance to the sea. With its close links to generations of scientists from Aberdeen University it is considered to be perhaps the most studied estuary in the world.  You could, I’m informed, fill a library with the data that has been collected there.

Combine the estuary with the adjoining nature reserve at the Sands of Forvie and you have an area of global significance in terms of wildlife and nature.

Mrs CBL and I had our picnic at the top of the dunes overlooking the estuary and the Sands of Forvie a view you can see in the top half of the dual image I’ve posted.
