Countess Cadogan

Countess Cadogan is another of the 'old fashioned' grandiflora sweet peas. This one was introduced for sale by the great Victorian hybridist Henry Eckford in 1900. Countess Cadogan appears, from the National Portrait Gallery archives, to refer to Lady Beatrix Craven (1844-1907), the first wife of the 5th Earl Cadogan who is described as a 'society hostess and philanthropist'. She certainly had a superb sweet pea named after her.
