Quilp Street

Not the most worthy of Dicken's Characters from the Old Curiosity Shop was Daniel Quilp. Originally I was bemused to understand why this street was named after such an unsavoury fictional person. However further research found drawings of Quilp Street is 1814, when parts of it were demolished to make way for Southwark Bridge Road...and the Curiosity Shop was published in 1841. Dickens lived nearby ..so using 2 + 2 = 5, guess that he nicked the street's name for the character. So i wonder what he saw that made him choose it for one of his more odious players.

Still I love the colour of these old London Stock Yellows, that have survived the test of time !
