The Lozarithm Lens

Calne (Thursday 24th June 2021)

I walked into Calne via the scenic route to collect some meds, crossing Curzon Park and through Berhill's Farm down to the River Marden at Keevil's Weir. There were an amazing number of damselflies and a few butterflies along the riverside. When I reached Chaveywell Bridge and looked over it into the old canal at first I could see only some ducks, but then I could just make out a faint grey object which through the camera I could see was the grey heron. The canal path was very overgrown, though, so the trampling noise as I crept towards him was enough to send him on his way again.
As I also had my bridge camera I walked up to the church in case the peregrine was there (it wasn't). As I approached the pharmacy I noticed the Calne Hatman, a well known character in the area, chatting up two girls. I rejoined the Marden at Beach Terrace and looked at the flags on the riverbank that are now fully out and looking good.
