butterfly house

We have arrived on the Isle of Wight for a few days. This is a trip down memory lane with my brother and SiL. My bro and me were brought on holiday to Sandown every year as boys, it was an adventure we shared with Uncle, Auntie and cousins. We have very happy memories but it has been nearly 50 years since I was last here.
We are staying in a lovely new apartment built on the site of the old hotel we always came to. The view from the cliff top hasn't changed and from what Ive seen so far not much else has either. We took the early red funnel ferry and made the most of the day of sunshine. On our way to Sandown we stopped off at the butterfly house which houses some amazing butterflies that were very difficult to photograph. But the one in blip stayed still for a short time, apparently it is a large tree nymph some 14cm wide.
From there we made away to settle into the apartment and had a walk along the seafront to the far end where Browns pitch and putt is. This place has given golfing fun for holiday makers since 1932, it was opened by the great Henry Cotton. The historic attraction was the only time as kids that Alan and I played golf. It ignited some interest in Alan and certainly was the basis for the rest of his life as he became a golf pro and is now a golf coach.
This holiday isn't going to be much photography but is providing many stories and laughs already. The girls are going along with it at the moment, I hope they don't get fed up of our reminiscing.
