Floral excursion

S and I enjoyed visiting the gardens of Havoc Hall in Oswaldkirk, open under the National Gardens Scheme. Created around an extended 1930s house they feature a series of spaces, all brimming with colour. We especially liked the meadow and pond area where dragonflies and other insects were abundant. Then we went on to Birkdale Farm, near Castle Howard, for a wildflower walk, in particular looking for orchids (Southern Marsh orchids and Common Spotted orchids) which are spreading across some of the fields. Butterflies were rising out of the field edges as we admired the many other wildflowers. A floral feast for the eyes.
