The Birthday Cake

Today we drove to my Mother's house in readiness for her 90th birthday  party on Wednesday. We just missed her sister, my Aunt, who had called with the birthday cake. When I was last with her, my Mum and I had baked the rich fruit cake  (to the same1952 Stork margarine recipe she always  uses, except we used butter not margarine !) later covering it with almond paste, before  handing  it to my aunt for the royal icing.
Good to have the cake ready, but lots more prep to do over the next couple of days!
