We needed to go to Newcastle to pick up Katie's stuff ahead of her moving out of her student house for the summer so we decided to make a weekend of it and booked a hotel in Whitley Bay for the night. Unfortunately a bout of truly grim weather precluded a leisurely stroll along the coast so we got the metro into town instead and had a wander round the Baltic, checked in with the kittiwakes, struggled to find to decent coffee and cake and met up with the daughter later for Italian food in Jesmond...
