clearing

When the old copper beech tree fell in our woods 3 years ago, it left a large clearing and let in the light which allowed new plants to flourish. I love these stately foxgloves and they look especially lovely when the sun gets lower in the sky.

We had a morning cool enough to make gardening a pleasure, but the afternoon was hot and sunny, so I read my book under a tree and then took Jess down to the river to cool her down. I did some more gardening before making the tea and have just been out again for a wander around, taking photos of the flowers.

The flycatchers have still not fledged, but are looking quite grown up and alert. Every morning I expect to find an empty nest..

Today's walk: down to the river with Jess 2.04 miles
