Lefty Grove memorial

Lefty Grove is considered one of the best pitchers in professional baseball history. He was born in Lonaconing, Maryland, which is where this memorial is. He played pro ball from 1925-1941 for the Philadelphia Athletics and Boston Red Sox, but he also played amateur ball in Cumberland and Frostburg.

He won 300 games in his 17-year career, twice in one season had an immaculate inning (striking out three batters with nine pitches), and "led the American League in wins in four separate seasons, in strikeouts seven years in a row, and had the league's lowest earned run average a record nine times" (Wikipedia). He died in 1975.

Reading about him is impressive. This memorial is really neat too.
