Somme 105.

Today is the 105th Anniversary of the first day of the Battle of the Somme in WW1.
Almost 20,000 British troops were killed on the first day alone, the worst ever day in military history.
Whilst researching family history a few years ago, I came across this Special Order Of The Day sent to the troops of the 19th Division, made up of Lancashire Regiments, before battle commenced.
Bearing in mind the previous statistic,
It makes very poignant reading.
