Lochnellan

Another of the abandoned Dava farms, Lochnellan is perched High on a ridge overlooking a wide expanse of Moor and the Anaboard Burn. An idyllic situation on a day like today when the sun is shining and the air fragrant with bell heather and the garden with the smell of mint crushed underfoot - it must have very different in the depths of a severe Highland winter. This perhaps explains why the byre, on the left attached to the house has only two narrow openings like arrow slits for ventilation. In the garden the traditional rowan tree still wards off evil spirits.

The extra shows Lochnellan on the skyline beyond a pool in one of the many abandoned peat workings. Today the wee lochan was alive with dragon and damsel flies hunting above it.
