Cast Iron Camels

Between the City of Westminster
and Blackfriars Bridge,
the Victoria Embankment's
as cold as a fridge
in mid March.

There's snow in the air.
If you're looking for mammals
you'd expect arctic foxes
or seals - never camels
in mid March.

Passers-by do just that,
pass straight by every seat:
It's too cold for sitting
in sharp wind and sleet
in mid March.

These camels are iron,
cast in Sittingbourne, Kent.
They support London's walkers
whose energy's spent
all year round.
