Surfing in Ireland

The weather was capricious Saturday, that is to say bloody awful, then gorgeous and finishing off with bloody awful. We got so soaked in Lahinch at lunchtime that Z had to buy a proper raincoat, thereby ensuring, as soon as she had parted with the cash that the rain stopped. Well worth it.
Doolin was beautiful, scorching, everyone in party mood, surfers, pier divers, families. Then we happened on one of the most beautiful beaches I've been on, Fanore beach, if you're ever in Clare. Though sinking in the slightly sucking sands, made me wish I hadn't had the ice-cream and apple crumble and weighed a little less.
Later back in Ballyvaughan, we got a seat for a late meal at a seafood restaurant. It's all still outdoor dining here, so we were praying the parasol would stay up, as the torrential rain lashed around our table.
