A View From Tragic Eyes

This isn't the romantic, enviable Cretan scene you might imagine. It's a view from the walls on the island of Spinalonga looking back to the coastline of Crete. If you've ever read The Island by Victoria Hislop, you'll recognise that this tiny island was once home to a leper colony, the inflicted residents banished there to end their days isolated from their friends and families in an attempt to protect them from the horrible, deadly disease.
It's a sad, thought provoking place.
