Met my mum in Hebden Bridge and, after our planned walk was curtailed by an hour of the most extreme rain I’ve seen since I spent typhoon season in Guangzhou, we drove up to Heptonstall because she wanted to find Sylvia Plath’s grave. The original plan was to walk there but, seeing the angle of the road, I’m almost glad we didn’t. Later, we returned to our hotel, the Old White Lion in Haworth, where the staff tried to say that halloumi was vegan and then finally admitted they’d never heard of vegan.
