Masked Up

... and ready for some action

A visit to the library to wrap up a certain collaboration, followed by a celebratory coffee and cake. A proper coffee continues to taste ridiculously good at the moment.

Leeds was definitely a lot busier than it has been on other visits but I find myself being as cautious as I've ever been. Anecdotal evidence suggests that Covid is rife in the community, with far more people being infected than is being recorded by testing.

It does seem a bit like madness to be pressing a button to return to normal in just two weeks, at a time of a big upsurge in cases. If I was in charge, rather than set a fixed date, I would have set a fixed percentage of the population to be vaccinated. It would be a target that had to be reached before all restrictions could be removed. As it is, we are going to open up before the majority of younger people are protected and we will have taken away any incentive for the hesitant and less involved in society to get their jabs.

But what do I know?

And, oh yes, this was the day that we beat Demark to get to the final of the Euros. It was a lot of fun watching at home with the lads, and Shenny and Whiskey. They've never known such dizzy excitement with the national team. I want this for them more than anything else. In the process, I've discovered that it's a lot easier watching England with Roam than it is watching Leeds, despite all the tension, as long as Kalvin is playing well, that is!

It's great to think that the whole nation is coming together for this final. Mass gatherings and parties all over the country, possibly in wild, drunken celebrations. I guess that's all been factored into the government's decision-making. They obviously know what they're doing. They assure us that they are following the science. Who would want to argue with that?
