Inverewe Gardens

One of the main aims in our tour of Scotland was to get to Inverewe gardens at Poolewe.  We have tried before but when we arrived a storm was blowing and they wouldn't allow visitors because of the danger of things falling from trees. This time we were lucky if you call mizzle (a cross between mist and drizzle) lucky. However it wasn't enough to deter us.

We were greeted by a charming young lady who explained the map to us and pointed out all the parts of the garden which were particularly good at the moment.  One of them was the carnivorous plants.  The blip captures Kanyl "growping his pockets" for something while we were admiring the carnivorous plants, of particular interest to him as he has a small collection.

The lady in reception at the campsite had recommended the café's scones so a coffee and scone was on the agenda part way through the trip and coffee again at the end.  The gardens were well worth a visit.  I would suggest for anyone with an interest in lichens it is worth the visit for the lichens alone.  There was one species I have never seen before it was massive.  The first I saw was a piece on the ground, clearly fallen from a tree.  Laid on my hand it was at least 20cm (8")across the clump in both directions.  The extra shows a tree with some growing on it but not as big.
