Ice

The production of ice in Cambodia is very labour intensive. The ice is made in dark noisy buildings called ice factories. These are situated in bigger markets.Within those factories the ice is made into rectangular blocks. The ice is then wrapped in sacking Ice Sellers then come to the factory, load the ice blocks onto their vehicles and go off to sell them around the town .The vehicles used by the ice Sellers may be hand pushed carts, trailers pulled by motor bikes or in the provinces a horse and cart. The shop and restaurant owners who need ice buy it by the foot or metre and the required amount is carved off at the road side with a saw. This picture shows a market stall owner who specialises in crushed ice feeding the ice block into his ice crushing
machine Ice is very cheap to buy here and I cannot imagine how anyone makes any money out of it.
