Ominous

Most of the day was taken up with a training course on Rapid Grassland Assessment that I was providing to some volunteers for Barnack and Bainton parishes. Our local authority has done some experimental cutting on two of our county wildlife site (CWSS) verges, and I'm helping the local parishioners to monitor the results over the next three years.

Having prepared all the materials in the morning, I arrived at the lovely grassland CWS in good time - the sun was shining but the sky looked threatening. Sure enough, just as we started the training, the heavens opened. Luckily we were right next to our cars, so we all retreated and it had passed over in about ten minutes. The group made great progress during the afternoon, but I shall probably accompany them on at least their first visits to consolidate the learning.
