Surprising Stralsund / Überraschendes Stralsund

Stralsund is the gateway to Germany’s largest island, Rügen, but I was wrong to treat it merely as a transit point.

Indeed, Stralsund’s old town is a World Heritage Site, and has been largely cleared of cars and restored to its Hanseatic splendor, making it a very pleasant place to wander (if anyone ever gets to do that with kids in tow!).

Our plan was to spend a predicted rainy day in the very modern Oceaneum museum (strikingly new, the harbour being outside the UNESCO area) - but it was sold out until tomorrow. However, it turned out to be a surprisingly sunny day in the old town, so we did alright!
