Steely Sea Warriors

HMS Belfast (right) has been moored on the River Thames in London for more than half its life and today the ship celebrates its 75th anniversary since her launch on 17 March 1938.

On Friday 15 March 2013 a bottle of champagne was broken against the bow of HMS Belfast this anniversary of the ship's launch at the Harland & Wolff shipyard in Belfast.Friday's ceremony was also attended by Admiral Lord West, former First Sea Lord, veterans who served on the ship, City of London Sea Cadets and crew members of the Type 23 Frigate HMS Westminster which is currently berthed alongside HMS Belfast.

Fun fact: I was part of the first crew of the Type 23 Frigate, HMS Norfolk, when it came into Royal Navy service in 1990.
