Thornton Hall Farm

This beautiful 16th century grade 1 listed farmhouse hides the most beautiful gardens behind its walls, it is open on only 8 days this year and we were lucky that we had to swap a childcare day today so were able to visit with friends from the village.  We had a wonderful drive up through the dales (despite a long but very scenic diversion for roadworks) and stopped at Leyburn for what would have been coffee but became lunch due to the delay!
We met my sister and her husband at the gardens which was a bonus as was the delicious cake which we had sitting watching the swallows fly overhead.  It was very warm with lots of thunderflies and some thunder!  But no rain till we were on our way home.
A grand day out!
