Day 2... We packed up, setting out from camp at about 8am. And drove down a soft gravel track for about 50km before turning on to an incredibly tame 4x4 track, seemingly on nothing the front left shock absorber sheared off. Must have had metal fatigue or something, there was nothing to cause it to do that.

We limped the car back to phone signal (about 50km) with the shock absorber rubbing on the front axel. When there we stopped by the side of the road and waited a few hours for the tilt tray to arrive to collect us and take us 200km to the nearest garage.

Back to the city where I flew in yesterday and by 5pm we had dropped the car off at the mechanics (though no work would be done as it is a Sunday). Got some food in town and managed to find accommodation with my friends cousin who happened to live there.

In some ways we are very lucky that it happened in a place where we could drive to signal and close to a sealed road. It could have taken multiple days to do what we managed in one day.

Hopefully tomorrow we can get this fixed, at a minimum we will now lose 2 days of the holiday.
