Culver's Root

Veronicastrum virginicum

Thanks Miranda for hosting WFW

I took advantage of a break in the rain for a walk at Frohring, the first in more than a week.  Lots of wildflowers are now popping out.

I was surprised to see several earthmoving vehicles throughout the park.  They widened some of the meadow paths by cutting down 4 feet of grasses and flowers on both sides of the trail.  And some new drainage was installed.  I was concerned about the random vehicle tracks through the middle of the meadow, and the wide new areas that had been mowed for the first time.

There's a big controversy that's been brewing the last few years about the mission of the park system:  preservation of wildlife vs making it accessible to people and their sports.  A snowmobile trail had been added to one of the parks, and several are getting new lodges.   Suddenly this past week, the park system cut ties with the county.  The park had to borrow money to pay employees and cover new health insurance. Phone, e-mail, and internet were shut down. It was handled very poorly and it sounds like a big mess.  We're wondering what's going on behind the scenes.  I smell a rat.

Thanks for stopping by.
