Found on a single bookshelf

Today I stayed home as I have developed a lurgi, and chose to not force myself to go to work, in part to avoid passing it on. Instead I had four zoom meetings.

The weather has discouraged going outside, and I turned to one of our bookshelves and chose six books and wrote the following poem.

The Deeper Meaning of Life

In Our Time
     There is conceit
     that we are more civilised
     than those who came before

The pandemic shows not all are.

The Druid Prince
     lived his life in
     the service of his community
     as likewise was his death

Willingly accepted, not forced

King Arthur
May  or may not  have ruled
     has been chronicled
     and glorified

Everyone needs a hero

Letters from The Middle Ages
     Show the mundane
     the political and the ordinary
to we who read them still

Who will save texts, or tweets

Bomb, Book, and Compass
     One ends life for vainglory
One gives access to many lives
     One helps find direction

Looking outward to find the deeper meaning
