Day 476 Today's the day....

Today was the day if you were a fan of either tennis or football.  This afternoon we had the mens' singles finals at Wimbledon where it came as no surprise that Novac Djokovic  beat Matteo Berrettini, winning that most prized of tennis trophies for the sixth time.  Italy faired rather better this evening though when the final of Euro 2020 was played between England and Italy.  England scored within the first couple of minutes of the match but Italy levelled the score in the 67th minute.  This meant, as there was no further scoring during extra time, that the match and of course the ultimate competition winners was decided by the dreaded penalty shootouts and Italy won..  There has been a lot of criticism and some vile comments on social media and there will be analyses galore in tomorrow's press but in this household we are  just grateful to this young team and their manager that they got us to a final for the first time in 55 years and we hope that they can move forward with optimism about better things to come.
I had planned a rather nice little collage featuring most of the family but the only laptop I have left that has Picasa on it ( my preferred editing software) is so unbearably slow on some days and I just can't get it to perform.  I've settled instead for a pic of Violet looking pensive and in extras, Peggy Sue looking alarmed instead.
Violet herself has had rather a busy day.  She has had a bout of  the fever that has  plagued her regularly since a viral illness three years ago and her consultant had asked that she go to our local Children's A & E for bloods to be taken at the point when she has the raised temperature, so that these can be sent to Gt Ormond Street for analysis.  Of course in these troubled times one had to do the tests for Covid-19 just in case, so she had to endure two of these as well, a lateral flow and a PCR, both negative.  She has been a Very Brave Girl Indeed.
