CINEREOUS VULTURE

Cinereous vulture (Aegypius monachus), a.k.a Black vulture, a.k.a. Monk vulture, a.k.a. Eurasian black vulture.

It's a big bird...females 17-31 pounds (7.7-17kg); males 14-25 pounds (6.4-11.3kg). They are widely distributed around temperate Eurasia.

Their job is essential. They are the cleaners of the dead....scarfing up carrion wherever it may be found. They are paramount to the health of an ecosystem.
