The steps at the foot of this turbine look tiny. In fact it's the turbine that's big.

It has been operating since 2005 and is said to have been Scotland’s first community wind turbine. It was fully funded by people resident in Orkney, with all revenue retained for local investment. In addition, a community investment fund was set up which distributed funds each year to the local community association and other charities.

Unfortunately the information board at the site has succumbed to the weather, so it's hard to make out all the facts and figures. More research needed.
