Stourhead

Stourhead was looking particularly lovely in the sunshine today.  We were there early and were leaving as the hoards were pouring in.  I nearly posted another swan as there was a pair gracing the lake.  This is the Gothic Cottage, built as a humble rustic cottage in about 1750.  The fashionable Gothic features were added by Richard Colt Hoare in 1806.

In the extras are the Bristol Cross with the Pantheon on the other side of the lake, the house, and a glimpse of the Temple of Apollo through the trees.

This was a trip down memory lane for us as we lived nearby for 35 years and used to visit very frequently.
