Gaudi's Inspiration

Here is, I think, a nice example of how leafs start growing after the winter period.
When the twigs grow towards the sunlight, the new leaves develop on the top of the twigs. The new formed leafs are rotated a bit so the leafs underneath them still can catch as much sunlight as possible. Nature is clever.

This geometrical and organic kind of growth is one of the main inspirations for the spanish Architect Antoni Gaudi in his search for a new architectural language.
In his work Sagrada Familia you can find many examples.
