Hot Stuff

The chilli plants (Apache) on the window sill have been enjoying all this hot weather.  By contrast,  I kept out of the heat and had a quiet day.

We watched the film Viceroy's House tonight which we missed at the cinema back in 2017.  It's the story of the Mountbattens arrival in India in 1947  and the subsequent breakup of the country.  Hugh Bonneville plays Lord Mountbatten and Gillian Anderson Lady Mountbatten.  The movie had mixed reviews at the time with some critics of the view that it misrepresented the historical reality with an imperial version of India's partition.  I tend towards the review of Mark Kermode who said "it strives to dramatise the epochal events of 1947 for the widest possible audience, including those who know nothing of the independence of India or the creation of Pakistan" and found it an engaging movie.
