Poplar hawk-moth

I'm not a serious moth-trapper; I just put out my home-made trap now and again. Last night seemed an ideal one for moths, so I put the trap out and sure enough in was full of moths in the morning.  Some of them were gone the moment I opened the lid, but lots remained, including this hawk-moth. I've never caught this before - it was rather exciting to find it, and I was pleased that it didn't try to escape at the first opportunity.  In the evening, we went to Bullers to look for puffins again. They were there, but not where we saw them the last time, and rather a long way from the camera.  Daughter one was off to the Farnes today - she should have got a bit closer.
