Handa Island

One of the things we've never been able to do because the ferry is never usually open when we're up there was go to Handa Island.

The weather forecast had changed for the better so we headed off to Tarbet near Scourie to catch the ferry across. Our timing was impeccable as we were able to jump straight on to a boat and 15 minutes after pulling up we were on the island.

The route is about 4 miles but what a dramatic 4 miles they were with 100m plus high cliffs containing hundreds of thousands of birds and Skua nesting actually on the island itself. It may not have a huge Puffin population (around 800 pairs) but we happened to be looking over the edge of the cliff and there was one happily standing there and enjoying a breather for a few minutes before leaping off to find some more sand eels.

The photo itself is a 4 photo panorama that deserves to be seen large, unfortunately I had to trim it a little to get under 20MB.

The Puffin and a rather nice little lochan are in the extras.
