Uncommon

This is Ivy Broomrape.  Orobanche hederae

It is a parasitic plant with no chlorophyll. As the name suggests it grows on the roots of Ivy.
It is described as “local” in the South of England, meaning not widespread. In Wales it is said to be coastal.

It is not listed in the Flora of Cumbria.

And yet this one is part of a thriving colony in our Arnside garden. And we know of another place in the village where it grows.

You might not think it is beautiful but to the amateur botanist it is certainly interesting.
