Growing old disgracefully

Greenwich

'There is nothing worse than a sharp image of a fuzzy concept.'

To Greenwich this morning to see the Ansel Adams exhibition at the National Maritime Museum. I expected to be intimidated, but I left inspired.

The theme of the exhibition was his treatment of water. I may be alone in this, but I do so dislike the current fashion of slowing down and smoothing moving water in photography- it's clever, but seems to rob the water of its essence. Adams' water is so different, fresh, vibrant, full of energy. His waterfalls are so powerful you want to stand back to avoid the spray.

We took advantage of a brief sunny spell to walk to the Observatory and stand on the meridian - well, one of the meridians. It is a bit dependant on your point of view.

A cheeky wee siesta, an Italian meal and then we trotted off to see Warhorse. it was stunning performance and even this hard headed individual was moved to tears. So that's the end of the anniversary treat. Tomorrow morning we're off to Euston and home for our daughter's birthday and then I'm packing for the prairies...
