Return to the North

One photo says it all!

We decided to do the trip back from the Highlands in one go! In part because being mid-summer, hotels were charging premium prices!
Well what a bloody journey! We wanted to stop in Perth for petrol at Tesco and came off at the wrong roundabout, a tiki tour round Perth ensued.
We then made really good time and stopped at Southwaite services on the M6 around 3pm. Well that was the last of the good luck.
1. The M6 junction for Penrith was backed up (yep our turn off) we finally got in to the A66 to hit roadworks. Got through those and then everything just stopped!
28 degrees heat sat in a traffic jam. What normally takes an hour took 3.5 hours!

There had been accident on the A1, after the Scotch Corner turn off and so it was shut and backed up along the A66. Was absolutely bloody mental!

Two things about the photo:
1. We were overtaken by a hay baler!!
2. The car in front- we had watched the driver put her make up on, brush her hair (a lot) and got changed - all inside the car, while we were inching along! And quite a lot of it with no handbrake on and while veering around the road!

Finally after 13 hours to do 450 miles we are home
