War of the Worlds?

'Then came the night the first missile approached Earth. It was thought
to be an ordinary falling star, but next day there was a huge crater in the middle of the Common, and Ogilvy came to examine what lay there: a cylinder, thirty yards across, glowing hot... and with faint sounds of movement coming from within.

Suddenly the top began moving, rotating, unscrewing, and Ogilvy feared there was a man inside, trying to escape. He rushed to the cylinder, but the intense heat stopped him before he could burn himself on the metal.'

Lyrics from Jeff Wayne's classic 1978 concept album 'War of the Worlds' based upon an 1898 sci-fi novel of the same name by H. G. Wells, the narrative of which described the adventures of an unnamed main character in London and the surrounding countryside as Earth is invaded by Martians.

So, this is my 'Concept Blip'. Yeah, I know it's only the dome of an inflatable tennis court cover, but in the slanting rays of the morning sun, the artificiality of it when compared to its surroundings reminded me of an alien space craft that had landed overnight. I've always had a fertile imagination.
Come to think of it, as I write this quite the opposite is going on because us Earthlings are invading Mars. The Mars Rover, 'Curiosity', landed some months ago and is now busy crawling around the red planet looking for signs of (previous) life. I don't rate its chances much. Last week it drilled a hole in a rock a couple of centimetres deep. I have since learned that its main computer is not functioning properly and has had to go into safe/standby mode because of a glitch caused by cosmic ray strikes. Perhaps they should turn it off for 30 seconds then turn it back on again. Always works for me!
So do you remember the Book/ music/ double Album cover artwork/ Justin Hayward's 'Forever Autumn' song? You have to be of a certain age I suppose (particularly for the book!)
