The force of water

I left the lovely Black Forest and drove north to my hometown in North Rhine Westfalia. I was shocked when I saw the destruction the floods left behind.
The water suddenly rose by many metres, no time to prepare or stop the floods. Nearly ten days after the deluge much has been cleaned up but business have been devastated and the stench and mud is still everywhere. A tragedy for all but I was touched by the solidarity shown by everyone. Messages of encouragement, donations and people cleaning up, promising to get back to normal as soon as possible.
In the forty years I have lived here I never saw the small brook rise out of its banks, this one just came from nowhere…
